Dell Ropes in Sogo as Master Franchisee
Dell India which is still trying to get its channel strategy right in the country, has roped in Bangalore based Sogo Computers as its Master Franchisee. Under this new business model Sogo will act as a regional distributor and direct retail partner for Dell Computers.
Confirming the news, Sogo’s head honcho G Jayamuni Rao said, “Dell is one of the biggest technology brands globally, and through our multiple retail outlets and branches across the state of Karnataka, we plan to sell their entire range of products.

Sogo launches exclusive Dell stores: plans 10 more
Bangalore based Sogo Computers, have launched the first partner owned exclusive retail store for Dell, suburban Jayanagar. The company is learned to be contemplating to launch 10 more exclusive Dell retail stores across Karnataka.
"Dell business has been good. We have grown around 40% month on month last quarter in terms of absolute numbers. July was the first month when we clocked 1000 units. Our retail foray is to keep the momentum going and numbers happening," said Dinesh Nair, General Manager of Sogo Computers.
Sogo is planning to launch 10 more stores, which will sell Dell exclusively. "We will be starting one more store in Bangalore, and an existing store will be made exclusive for Dell in Mangalore. We will reveal the exact plans and time frames for other stores later. It depends on many factors including market trends and availability of sound real estate deals," he added.
Sogo who is also the Master Sales Affiliate (regional distributor) for Dell in Karnataka, is expecting to take advantage of the price benefits. "We have complete control of distribution, and Dell is not over distributed. Its safe hence to go through retail channels selling Dell," said Nair.

Dell signed a strategic partnership with Sogo making it Dells master franchisee. Under this agreement, Sogo was also appointed as regional distributor and direct retail partner. The company now intends to ship Dell products through at least 200 of its partners in Karnataka. The company was forced to shut many of its retail outlets. Sogo moved to a hybrid model with uni-brand stores and multi-brand stores to stay profitable.

Sogo To Target Home Segment With Branded PCs
Bangalore-based Sogo Computers is set to launch its own brand of PCs shortly, targeting the home segment. Sogo is also coming up with its own 4,000 sq. ft. manufacturing unit for PCs, desktops and servers in Pondicherry.

Sogo Computers Plans Major Business Overhaul
With a view to growing its revenues twofold in 2006-2007, Bangalore-based Sogo Computers, one of Karnataka's big distributors, plans to restructure and integrate its three businesses - resale (of computers & peripherals), retail (IT & CE) and leasing/hire purchase/rentals.
